Also referred to as “La Loi du Marche”, ‘The Measure of a Man’ surrounds Thierry (Vincent Lindon), a guy still struggling in his 50s. Unlike the common sayings that refer the 50s as retirement years, Thierry can’t retire without any cash in the bank and to make matters worse, he has a family to look after. Ever since he was laid off almost two years ago, Thierry has failed to make ends meet in the modern and competent world. He lacks technical skills and has no recommendation to make it through. However, Thierry is not giving up because he has to pay his son’s education fees, who appears to have a bright future. The beginning scenes of the film reveal Thierry’s humble nature and despite the storm, he is still happy with his wife. During his several interviews, Thierry remains unemployed until he finally lands a security job. Thierry faces humiliating scenarios, but even so, he still remains a genuine man with a kind heart. The film won numerous awards, especially for Vincent Lindon as the best actor and was also nominated for the Palme d’Or.
